About Skintonic

By the Skintonic team · SKINTONIC LLC · Updated

Skintonic is a personal color analysis tool. It reads three colors from one photograph — your skin, your eyes and your hair — and works out which of twelve color seasons your coloring belongs to, along with the palette that goes with it.

Who makes it

SKINTONIC LLC, a limited liability company registered in the United States. The company is the author and publisher of everything on this site. We do not publish personal names, photographs or biographies, and nothing here claims a qualification, an award or an endorsement — if you find a claim on these pages, it is one the code or the company can be held to.

How it works, honestly

Four readings decide a result, and they are the same four a trained analyst looks at:

Undertone
Whether your skin leans warm and golden, cool and pink, or sits between the two.
Depth
How light or deep your coloring runs overall, taken across the whole face.
Contrast
The distance between the lightest and the darkest parts of your face.
Chroma
How pure the color in you is — clean and clear, or softened and dusty.

Those four place you in one of twelve seasons: three variations each on spring, summer, autumn and winter. All twelve are set out here, and the theory behind them is explained here.

Your photo is not uploaded. Your browser opens the file, reads the pixels it needs and does the arithmetic on your own device. The image is held in memory only and is deliberately left out of the small amount this site saves locally, so closing the tab discards it. There is no account and no email address to hand over.

What it cannot do

Light is the limit, and it is a real one. A result is computed from the color of your skin as the camera recorded it, and an ordinary indoor bulb can shift that reading further than the whole distance between warm and cool. Face a window in daylight, skip the filter, and if the photo comes out too dark or too heavily warm the result page says so before anything else and asks you to take it again.

A photograph is also not a draping session. An analyst holding real fabric against your face in controlled light, watching you move, can be more precise than this is — and where the two disagree, the analyst in the room has more information than the arithmetic does. We would rather write that down than imply otherwise. The three options are compared in full here.

Pricing

Your season and a preview of your colors are free. The full palette, the shades to avoid, the outfit builder and the PDF are $9 once — no subscription, nothing recurring, nothing to cancel — and there are fourteen days to ask for it back under the refund policy.

Questions

Who is behind Skintonic?

SKINTONIC LLC, a limited liability company registered in the United States. The company is the author of everything published here, which is why these pages carry a company byline rather than a personal one.

Is Skintonic a person or a team?

A company. We do not publish individual names, photographs or biographies, and we would rather say that than put an unverifiable byline on a page about how to judge color.

How do I get in touch?

By email, at skintonicapp@gmail.com. That is the address for refunds, access-code problems and anything else.
